"Caligula" Tour of the Ivan Franko Theater

1 July 2026, Wed. 18:00 - 20:00
Dnepropetrovsk Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko Dnipro, st. Voskresenskaya, 5

On July 1, 2026, the stage of the Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after T. G. Shevchenko will host the performance of the play "Caligula". The performance starts at 6:00 PM.

Tyranny has no time or space - it is an eternal threat to human freedom. Ivan Uryvsky prepared the premiere during the war, when Kyiv was under constant shelling. Camus's work in his interpretation sounds like a call to Europe and the world: do not give place to dictators and tyrants.

Together with set designer Petr Bogomazov, the director created an impressive production about the nature of power. The action unfolds in box cameras under dim light. Caligula is a dictator with unlimited power who decides the fate of people. Total surveillance, eavesdropping, distrust - as in Orwell's novel "1984". Human life balances between extremes.

On September 30, 2023, "Caligula" opened the MESS International Theatre Festival in Sarajevo and received two prestigious awards, including the "Sound of MESS" from Radio Sarajevo.

The cast may differ from those stated in promotional materials.
