Lina Kostenko. Rostyslav Derzhipilsky. Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. Oles Sanin. Natalia Polovinka.
When such names meet in one stage production, a legendary story is born.
"Marusya Churai" is a large-scale drama-song based on the legendary novel in verses by Lina Kostenko, in which the classic text takes on a new sound through the experience of modern Ukraine.
Director Rostyslav Derzhypilskyi interprets this work primarily as a story of war, human dignity, loss, and moral choice. The original music by Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, the unique voice work by Natalia Polovinka, and the cinematic video solutions by Oles Sanin create a performance that is striking in its scale and strength of emotions.
"Perhaps the novel itself was a work of ancient level... But in Rostislav Derzhipilsky's performance, this ancient scale becomes absolutely obvious," noted journalist and publicist Vitaliy Portnikov.
"Marusya Churai" is one of the most resonant Ukrainian theater premieres, which opens Lina Kostenko's immortal work for the modern audience.
