Theatre named after T. G. Shevchenko in Kryvyi Rih: from "Kryvbas" to the academic stage

The Kryvyi Rih Academic City Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy named after Taras Shevchenko has a rich history, which dates back to November 5, 1931. It was then that it opened under the name "Kryvbas", and the first production was the play "A Matter of Honor" by Ivan Mykytenko.

In 1949, the theater was named after Taras Shevchenko, in 1981 it became a musical and dramatic theater, and in 2012 it acquired the status of an academic theater. Today it is one of the key cultural centers of Kryvyi Rih.

Location in the city

The theater is located in the central part of Kryvyi Rih, near the Yuri Gagarin Park and the Saksagan River bed. This makes it an easily accessible and recognizable cultural landmark of the city.
