Wedding in Malynovka

Dnepropetrovsk Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko Dnipro, st. Voskresenskaya, 5

"Wedding in Malynovka" at the Dnipro Theater named after T. G. Shevchenko is a musical-dramatic performance about people who, even in times of change, fear, and struggle, do not lose their humor and ability to hold on to each other. Sometimes it is stories like these that help us breathe a little and look at complex things through live emotions, music, and the stage.

The events unfold a hundred years ago in the village of Malynovka, where the inhabitants are forced to live amidst constant changes of power. But instead of a dry “historical chronicle,” there are characteristic heroes, a lot of temperament, and Ukrainian stubbornness that is recognizable even today.

What is the play "Wedding in Malinovka" about?

Sofia, Yarinka, Grandpa Nechypir, Gapusya, Andriyko, and other residents of Malynivka find themselves under threat from Ataman Hrytsian and his gang, who seek to conquer the village using fear and force.

But in response, they receive not only resistance, but also the ingenuity, courage, and natural sense of humor of people who are used to fighting for their own. Through this story, the play talks about Ukraine, independence, and national identity — without pathos, but through human destinies.

This is a good option to switch from routine and spend an evening at the theater, where laughter and dramatic moments constantly replace each other. For the mood when you want not just a “light comedy”, but a story with character.

Why is it worth visiting this exhibition?

The performance combines music, humor, stage dynamics, and familiar Ukrainian characters. There will be an opportunity to laugh and feel a little nostalgic for that live theater, after which you still want to discuss the characters on the way home.

"Wedding in Malinovka" is a good plan for an evening with loved ones, parents, or friends. It's also an opportunity to replenish your treasury of memories and go out into the world not "for a tick", but for emotion.

The production director is Honored Artist of Ukraine Oksana Petrovska.
