The Potocki Palace in Lviv is one of the most exquisite architectural monuments of the late 19th century, which combines the history of the aristocracy, art and museum heritage. Today it is part of the Lviv National Art Gallery named after B. G. Voznytsky.
Aristocratic History of Lviv
This is a palace complex built for the Potocki family, one of the most influential aristocratic dynasties in Europe, which played a significant role in the political and cultural life of the continent.
The Potocki family left a noticeable mark in the history of art, literature and patronage, associated with the names of Jan Nepomuk Potocki and Mykola Vasyl Potocki, who supported the development of the sculptural heritage of Johann Georg Pinzel.
Construction of the palace
The palace was built in 1875–1883 by order of Count Alfred II Józef Potocki, an influential politician of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The project was carried out by the Parisian architect Louis Dauvergne, and the construction was carried out by the Lviv design and construction union of Julian Tsybulsky and Ludwik Baldwin-Ramulta.
