Vie Theater Laboratory

About the venue

Contemporary art, new forms and contents

The Vie Theater-Laboratory in Zaporizhzhia was founded in 1991 by actors of the Zaporizhzhia Youth Theater and musicians together with the studio of the director and playwright KLIMa. During the year, the institution was called "Free Space of Play", and in 1992 it received the name Vie (from the French - "life"). In 1995, the institution moved and was located on the island of Khortytsia at the address: 35, Naukovoy Mishechka Street. However, for three years, the reconstruction of the theater premises and landscaping work continued. Therefore, the grand opening of the Zaporizhzhia Municipal Theater-Laboratory Vie with a chamber hall for 96 seats at the new location took place on March 27, 1998.

The founder and first director of the theater was Viktor Vasilyevich Popov.

Repertoire of the Vie Laboratory Theater

Since the theater opened with the performance "The Fourth Chair" based on the play by Tonino Guerra, Vie's repertoire has been replenished with new contemporary works that reflect the main principle of the creative team - the search for and implementation of new, relevant forms of expression. Among the theater's most famous works:
  • "Unawakening";
  • "Alina's First Seven Works";
  • "Perepoviedaky. Legends of Zaporizhzhia";
  • "Ivasyuk. Red rue";
  • "Lonely West" and others.

Vie Theater Laboratory and Full-Scale War

The theater's 30th anniversary season was interrupted by full-scale Russian aggression. Work was suspended, performances were canceled. But not for long. Within two months, the theater troupe returned to rehearsals and later presented the premiere of the play "Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine" based on the play by contemporary playwright Anastasia Kosodiy. The institution's activities continue today. The audience is offered productions that are striking in their relevance and emotional depth.
