Kyiv Modern-Ballet. "Up the River", "Postscript"

Київський муніципальний академічний театр опери та балету) Kyiv

On May 27 (at 6:30 p.m.), the Academic Theater "Kyiv Modern Ballet" will present an evening of modern choreography, combining one of the theater's repertoire performances "Up the River" to the music of Alexander Rodin and the premiere of a new program of choreographic miniatures "Postscript". The event will take place on the stage of the Kyiv Opera House in Podol (2 Mezhyhirska Street).

The first section presents the ballet "Up the River" , which returns to the stage after a long break. The production is based on the story of life moving in reverse time. The main character makes his way from old age to birth, moving against the flow of time. This is a story about choice, loss and the inability to change what has already been experienced. The performance contains tangible allusions to "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" by Francis Scott Fitzgerald and the philosophical motifs of "Faust" by Goethe, while the production is not a stage adaptation of these works, but offers an independent author's reading in the production of Radu Poklitaru.

The second section is dedicated to the premiere of the program "Postscript" , in which Radu Poklitaru returns to the genre of choreographic miniature. After a long break, he again turns to the small form, where each work appears as a separate completed story. "Postscript" combines new productions and miniatures from the theater's repertoire, building them into a sequence, where none is a continuation of the other and at the same time they do not form a linear plot. However, this is precisely where the tension of the evening is born. Each part seems to shift the internal support, changes the optics, and the next number is already perceived differently, with a new sensitivity.
