DZIDZIO is a Ukrainian musical group founded on September 9, 2009 in Novoyavorivsk, Lviv region. The idea of creating the group belonged to Andriy Kuzmenko and Oleg Turk. One of the founders was the unchanging leader of the group, today a famous producer and a real star of the domestic scene Mykhailo Khoma. The group became popular due to its unique style, centered around the image of the main character - the comedic character Dzidzio. He is embodied by Mykhailo Khoma, who chose the pseudonym in honor of his grandfather, of Polish origin, Markul Jan Kazimirovych ("Dzidzio" is the dialect name for grandfather). The genre of DZIDZIO's work is defined as "comedic anti-glamorous pop". The band's songs have a special flavor: the lyrics use the Nadsyan dialect of Ukrainian, surzhyk.
"Dzidzho" made its debut in Ukrainian show business during its participation in the "Black Sea Games" festival, where the band reached the finals. Later, the band attracted attention thanks to the original version of Kuzma's song "Old Photos". In 2009, Andriy Kuzmenko created the song "Yalta" for the band, which became an important impetus for expanding its popularity and recognition on the music scene. Video clips on YouTube also helped promote the band's work. In just one year, the band's official channel collected an impressive 11 million views, which was a real breakthrough. Prospects for large-scale concerts and cooperation with other representatives of the cultural sphere expanded.
Several significant events in the history of DZIDZIO took place during 2011-2012. The video for the hit "Sama-sama" was shot in Spain. The video for the song "Ha-ha-ha" premiered at the Kyiv club Byblos. The event was accompanied by web conferences on popular portals and radio stations, and fans could follow the broadcast of the concert online on the band's official YouTube channel. In addition, the DZIDZIO mobile application was released for the iPhone and Android platforms, which further strengthened the connection with fans.
In September 2012, the band took part in the famous annual Oktoberfest festival in Munich. The musicians attracted the attention of the festival guests with bright stylish costumes and incendiary live performances. Soon, the album "HA-HA-HA" was released, which became a significant milestone in DZIDZIO's musical career. Within six months, the band presented a new song "Neighbors", which quickly gained popularity and conquered famous charts. Later, a video clip was shot for the new hit, where the constant heroine of the band's video works appeared - DZIDZIO's muse named Nadiya. At the same time, the musicians took an innovative step by releasing the first personal karaoke disc in Ukraine in DVD format. This novelty became a unique offer for fans, who could not only listen to their favorite songs, but also sing them along with the band.
After the rapid rise in popularity, a period of intensive performances and tours began for the DZIDZIO band. One of the most striking events in the history of the team was a solo concert on May 18, 2013 at the Arena Lviv stadium. This show became a landmark for the band. The musicians were the first to perform at the newly built arena created for Euro 2012. The concert gathered over 25,000 spectators. Before the performance, the cartoon "The Birth of a Legend", which told the story of the band's creation, was shown on the big screen. And the culmination of the evening was the premiere of the new track "I'm Lucky".
The summer of 2015 was another important period in DZIDZIO's work. The presentation of the video clip "I'm Going to Mom" took place. The work was filmed in picturesque Portugal. Later, the band went on a tour of Canada, where they introduced the Ukrainian diaspora to new and already well-known hits. Nadaland the band was in for dramatic changes. Lesyk, who was one of the founders of DZIDZIO, left the band. So a new musician, guitarist Orest Galitsky, joined the band. According to the music portal "Muzvar", the breakup of the DZIDZIO band and the conflict between its members were among the TOP-5 most high-profile cases of severance of relations in the music industry of Ukraine. The situation attracted considerable attention from both fans and media representatives.
On December 8, 2013, the DZIDZIO band in its entirety joined the music marathon that took place on Independence Square during the Revolution of Dignity. Their performance became an act of support for the protesters and a symbol of the musicians' unity with the people in an important period for the country. In 2018, the group made its debut at the MRPL CITY festival, where Mykhailo Khoma once again emphasized: “Mariupol is our city.”
During the full-scale invasion, Dzidzjo is actively involved in charity. He holds concerts both in Ukraine and abroad. In particular, in collaboration with the star of the national stage, Mykhailo Khoma held many joint concerts. He managed to raise more than three million dollars around the world. From the first days, when the situation was most difficult, the artists visited the military, performing even in destroyed halls.
