Becoming an artist
Monokate is a solo project of the soloist of the star group Go_A Kateryna Pavlenko, who is a famous Ukrainian songwriter and performer, musician and composer. Under the pseudonym Monokate, the star publishes her own poems and songs.
Kateryna Pavlenko was born in the Chernihiv region in the city of Nizhyn. The artist's mother once served in the army, and her grandfather and grandmother were engaged in her upbringing. It was her grandmother who instilled in her granddaughter a love of music and folklore, as she beautifully performed traditional folk songs.
The future artist studied at the Nizhyn Music School, where she attended the vocal and choral department and sang in the "Syayvo" choir. In addition to vocals, she mastered playing the piano and guitar. The teachers saw in the student the potential of an opera singer. However, Kateryna herself realized her natural talent and demonstrated bright charisma in a different direction.
In 2009, Pavlenko graduated from the Maria Zankovetska Nizhyn School of Culture and Arts with a degree in "folk choir conductor". She received her higher education at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, where she specialized in folklore.
Kateryna deeply studied the folk traditions and songs of the left-bank Kyiv region, in particular the Baryshiv region and the surroundings of Berezan. She also studied the musical heritage of the Chornobyl Polissya, which significantly influenced her further work.
Creative path
Even during her studies, Kateryna sang in several local rock bands - "Contours of Shadows" and My Spirit. At the same time, she led the ensemble "Vytynanka" and performed as part of the "Kralytsy" group.
In 2017, she became the leader of the veterans' choir in Berezan. Under her leadership, the group of performers received the title of folk group. And Pavlenko herself calls this experience one of the most powerful. After all, when thirty voices sound together at a concert, you can feel the real energy of unity - on stage and among the audience.
