History of the artist's development
BaWN (real name – Mykola Karpyuk) is a Ukrainian post-punk performer, author and composer from the city of Lutsk. BaWN is a new generation Ukrainian artist whose music was born from a random, almost cinematic detail. At the age of 14, Mykola went to the village and found his grandfather's old guitar in a dusty attic. It was from this moment that creativity became a part of his life, gradually turning into a way of thinking, a form of dialogue with the world and his own experiences.
Already in 2022, at the age of 17, Mykola consciously entered the industry as a singer and performer and created the BaWN project. The debut step was the track “Dvori”, which quickly gained popularity on TikTok, attracted the attention of a new audience and formed the first circle of fans. At the same time, the composition never received an official release - today it can only be found on re-uploads in the depths of SoundCloud, which only strengthens the semi-legendary status around the track.
The name BaWN stands for Black and White Night’s – “Black and White Nights”. And this formula surprisingly accurately reflects the artist’s style, his inner world and the genre in which the musician works.
Mykola does not have an academic musical education, but this did not prevent him from forming his own sound. In parallel with his creativity, the artist studies at the Lutsk National Technical University at the Faculty of Business and Law, combining the pragmatic world of numbers and strategies with the sensual, emotional culture of music.
Creative path
On August 31, 2022, BaWN will present his official debut - the single "Tlie". It is with this release that the artist's systematic work begins: regular tracks, live communication with fans, a gradual increase in popularity and recognition.
In a relatively short time, the artist's discography has grown to over 25 singles, among which collaborations occupy an important place. Collaboration with Sudno, Apatiya, Alice Change, Okolitsia, Vidchai demonstrates the artist's openness to collective creativity and the ability to sound organically in different formats.
A special touch was his participation in albums: in the Zagreb album "Community" BaWN appears with the track "The Last Tram". And in the release of Vidchai "Inside Out" - with the composition "Summer 19". All this gradually establishes BaWN as one of the brightest and most discussed representatives of the modern Ukrainian alternative scene.
The artist's style and creative development
BaWN's music is distinguished by melancholic melodies, a dense atmosphere and lyrics that boldly delve into the dark zones of the human psyche. His image is a rebel without pathos, a leader of an emotional movement who does not avoid difficult topics and does not seek to embellish reality. The artist's work is perceived as a personal diary, which records states of loneliness, depression, anxiety, and internal struggle. Each track is not just a composition or a potential hit, but an attempt at an honest conversation with the listener, a live emotion transferred to the stage and into headphones.
The collaboration with Alice Change on the single "Shadows" was indicative. In this work, both performers focused on the topic of mental health, seeking to draw the audience's attention to stigmatized disorders, in particular schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder. This approach emphasizes the artist's social sensitivity and his desire to use music not only as a form of self-expression, but also as a tool for influencing culture and social debate.
Despite his young age, BaWN has already managed to win the recognition of thousands of listeners, form a loyal circle of fans and declare himself as a star of the alternative segment. The artist's popularity is growing without loud awards or hit parades, but due to sincerity, charisma and a sense of truth in each release. A concert, festival or tour for this artist is not just an event, but a continuation of a dialogue with his audience, which appreciates depth, honesty and genuine emotion.
