History of the band
Violet is a Ukrainian musical group whose history began in 2009 in Lutsk. The leader of the group is Serhiy "Kolos" Martyniuk, well known not only as a musician, but also as a writer, poet, activist and co-founder of the "Bandershtat" festival. At first, Serhiy was closer to the circle of public figures, but gradually immersed himself in the music industry. Martyniuk became the manager of the V.O.D.A. band, where he met Andriy Oleksiuk. Together they laid the foundation for a new project - the band Fiolet. The creative baggage of the group at the beginning was quite modest: Serhiy had notebooks with poems, Andriy had an acoustic guitar. The first rehearsals took place in the winter of 2009 at the Lutsk Music School. The debut took place at the end of the same winter - at the birthday of the local festival "Forpost" in the cafe "Mandry". Later, the duo became a frequent guest of literary evenings in Lutsk. And a few months later, they opened the thousandth concert of the band Boombox. Then Martyniuk finally understood that music and creativity would become his life.
As for the name of the group, it does not contain any complex concepts. The frontman admitted that he simply liked the word "violet" and its sound. At the same time, the group never used this color in visual elements. But the musicians were guided by the advice of Sasha Polozhinsky - the name should be short and expressive.
Creative path
In the spring and summer of 2009, Violet began to actively perform and gather the first fans. On the way to popularity and recognition, the artists also met with criticism from the local public. In 2010, the group recorded their first demos at the Indyuk Records studio in Rivne. The recordings immediately hit the Internet and soon sounded on local radio stations. After performing with Boombox at the Lutsk cinema "Promin", the musicians seriously took up development. They began recording songs, shooting video clips, and began collaborating with other groups. Within a year, Violet shared the stage with real stars, and in the summer of 2010, the recording of a debut mini-album of six tracks began.
Participation in festivals added to their recognition: "Chervona Ruta", "Mazepa-fest", "Potyag do Yaremche", "Moloda Halychyna", "Bandershtat", "Zahed" - Violet fans could see their idols at all famous music events. In the fall of the same year, the first online release was released - the mini-album "Trokhy Tepla".
Style and development of the band
The experiment became the basis for the band's development: elements of punk and screamo appeared on the live shows. Arrangements were created directly during rehearsals, and it was this spontaneity that shaped Violet's style. At the beginning of her career, the musicians combined lyrics with elements of rap and reggae. Gradually, the band's lineup expanded, adding influences from jazz and funk. However, the main thing in the music remained the rock and roll drive. Each new album opened a new creative era, marking growth and rethinking.
Throughout her career, Violet has actively organized tours, participated in major festivals, and released new tracks and video clips. For example, the song "Beloved", the clip for which appeared on YouTube on February 28, 2018, was viewed by over a million users in just six months.
Social activity
A separate layer of Violet's activity is social and volunteer activity. In 2014, the band members raised funds for Volyn residents injured on the Maidan and donated items for charity auctions. For the Day of Dignity and Freedom, the band presented a video for the song "Brother, Do Good," dedicating it to the heroes of modern Ukraine. The video clip used documentary footage from the country's independent history. And the cover of the single featured a photo of 15-year-old activist Danylo Didik, who died as a result of a terrorist attack during the Unity March in Kharkiv in 2015.
Violet regularly performs for the military, supporting their struggle and inspiring them with songs. During a full-scale war, the band focuses on raising funds to cover the needs of the Defense Forces.
