Band history
GG Hulyaihorod is a Ukrainian musical group that creates compositions in the folktronic genre and was founded in the city of Kirovograd (now Kropyvnytskyi). At the time of its creation, the group was called Hulyaihorod. The history of the group began in 2014, when folklorists with experience in working with the group Tartak (the album "Tartak–Hulyaihorod" in 2005) and sound producer Andriy Antonenko met.The idea was simple and at the same time bold – to combine electronic dance music (EDM), in which Andriy was a true specialist, with live folklore. And so the roles were formed: Iryna Baramba and Nastya Filatova took care of the authentic basis. Andriy added modern electronic rhythms, and Severyn Danyleyko introduced recitative parts. Instrumentalists from other bands also joined in the creation of the tracks, which enriched the sound of the compositions.
Nastya and Iryna met while studying to be folklorists. Together they collected old songs and revived works for the modern stage. To give the compositions a new electronic sound, the girls invited Andriy - and so the project was born. The name GG symbolizes the image of the ancient ancestors of Ukrainians - Great Grandmothers (fathers), who through the centuries preserved and passed on to their descendants authentic musical culture.
The Ukrainian public learned about GG Hulyaihorod in 2015, when the updated format was presented to a wide audience. The presentation of the project took place in November-December 2015, when the band held concerts as part of a tour of Ukrainian cities. The goal was to introduce the band's work and new album to fans. The debut of GG Hulyaihorod was successful and attracted the attention of numerous fans.
Creative path
An important event on the path of GG Hulyaygorod to recognition and popularity was the concert program of 2015, which combined lyrical motifs, humor, protest energy, social themes and driving dances. On the stages of the country's cities, the artists created a bright atmosphere thanks to live singing, a combination of acoustic folk instruments - cymbals, trumpets, flutes, violins, tambourines and bass - with modern electronic samples. Such a mix gave the group's music a new sound, while preserving its ethnic flavor. At the same time, the first songs of the project were presented even earlier - at the ethno festival "Kraina Mriy", where the tracks immediately attracted the attention of the audience. The style and development of the band
The sound of GG Hulyaihorod is a combination of traditional polyphony and folk recordings with modern electronic music, including DJ versions. The folk song always remains at the center - a source of vital energy and inspiration. Through the synthesis of ethnic melos and modern trends in the music industry, the artists strive to awaken a sincere interest in Ukrainian culture. The "feature" of the performers is precisely the mixture of ethno and EDM genres, which naturally merged into a single style. The basis of the group's hits are songs collected by the participants during ethnographic expeditions. As a result, crazy energy is born at the concerts. Incendiary singing, dance rhythms and the drive of acoustic timbres in tandem with electronics explode with bright fireworks, giving listeners new sensations of sound and movement.
One of the most striking milestones in the band's creative path were the releases of records, the creation of bright video clips and tours that stretched from Poland and Estonia to Greece and even India. The collaboration with the American rapper KingKwaZulu, which was embodied in the song "Hayivka", was a bright one. The band has repeatedly participated in the largest Ukrainian festivals. Among them are GogolFest, Atlas Weekend, RespublicaFEST, Khortytsia Freedom and many others.
