Lana Chubakha is a Ukrainian stand-up comedian, resident of "Underground Stand-up", TikToker and two-time winner of the show "Make the Comedian Laugh". She is well known for her light style, self-irony and musical numbers with the ukulele, which have long become a signature part of her performances.
In modern Ukrainian stand-up, Lana is often called one of the warmest comics on the scene. Her humor is not about aggression or the desire to "finish with a punch", but rather about living observation of people, everyday situations and the absurdity of ordinary life.
Lana Chubakha was born in Kropyvnytskyi, but has been living in Kyiv since the age of nine. That is why she jokingly calls herself "a Kyivan from Kropyvnytskyi".
The comedian remembers moving to the capital with great self-irony. One of the first vivid impressions for little Lana was McDonald's near Sevastopolskaya Square. It was then that the girl perceived it as the real center of Kyiv - after all, there was no such institution in her hometown at that time.
And the hospital building nearby Lana sincerely considered the presidential residence. Now the comedian often recalls these stories on stage, turning childhood impressions into very lively and recognizable humor.
A special place in her memories is occupied by the pigeons of Kyiv. According to Lana, the capital's birds looked too self-confident: they calmly strolled along the sidewalks and were in no hurry to give way to people. It was then, the artist jokes, that she realized that Kyiv is a special city.
Lana Chubakha's first stand-up performance took place in 2014 at the "Bank" institution at KPI. It was there that the early Kyiv open mics were held, where the winner of the evening was awarded a rather symbolic prize — a five-liter can.
Lana recalls that period as the most sincere stage of Ukrainian stand-up. Almost everyone was a beginner, supported each other, and went on stage not for the sake of popularity or fees, but for the love of humor.
Later, stand-up turned from a hobby into a full-fledged profession for the artist. Today, her performances collect hundreds of thousands of views on social networks, and her videos are actively distributed on TikTok and YouTube.
A separate part of Lana's work is shaped by her pedagogical experience. The comedian worked as an English teacher in an elementary school for over eight years. It was this work that gave rise to a huge number of stories that later became the basis for jokes.
In her performances, Lana talks about:
At the same time, Lana presents even complex topics without undue drama - through warm humor, self-irony and a very human intonation.
Lana Chubakh is often called the musical comic of the "Underground Stand-Up". During her performances, she uses the ukulele, combining classic stand-up with musical interludes and short song numbers.
This format adds lightness to the concerts and makes the artist's style recognizable literally from the first minutes.
Her performances are full of improvisation, live contact with the audience, and observations in which the audience easily recognizes themselves. That is why Lana's humor often works not through a "loud punch", but through the effect: "this literally happened in my life".
After the start of the full-scale war, volunteering became an important part of Lana's life.
Komikesa supports her father's brigade, who serves in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also helps volunteer formations and the medical battalion "Hospitaliers". The artist has repeatedly participated in charity concerts and tours in Ukraine and Europe.
One of such performances took place in London, where Lana, together with comedian Iryna Gil, raised funds for the needs of the Ukrainian army.
In addition, the comedian tries to support people emotionally. In the first months of the Great War, while in shelters with her sister, Lana held psychological meetings and organized children's parties with balloons and garlands to at least lighten the atmosphere for the people around her a little.
The comedian admits that it is humor, close people and a sense of mutual support that help her hold on even in difficult times.
Lana Chubaha's performances are a format after which you usually leave with the feeling that you just had a very good conversation with friends. It can be funny, absurd, sometimes a little sad, but almost always very human.
