Lana Chubakha is a Ukrainian stand-up comedian, resident of “Underground Stand-up”, TikToker, two-time winner of the show “Make a Comedian Laugh”. Lana is called the musical comedian of “Underground” thanks to her bright song numbers accompanied by the ukulele.
The future star of the Ukrainian comedy industry was born in Kropyvnytskyi, but has lived in the capital since the age of 9. That's why she calls herself a Kyiv native from Kropyvnytskyi. Lana recalls her move to the capital with light self-irony and good-natured humor. The comedian's first impression of Kyiv was quite funny. Seeing McDonald's near Sevastopolskaya Square, Lana decided that this was the city center. After all, such an institution had only recently opened in her native Kropyvnytskyi. And the beautiful building nearby, which turned out to be a hospital, in the girl's imagination was nothing more than the President's residence. At that time, Lana was only nine. And now the star recalls her impressions with a smile.
Little Lana especially remembered the pigeons of Kyiv. The birds looked very confident and not at all scared. They proudly walked along the sidewalks and were in no hurry to give way. Yes, the comedian jokes, she became a part of the capital - fascinated by fast food, architecture and overly confident birds.
Creative path
Lana remembers her comedy debut in front of a live audience with special warmth. The performance took place in 2014 on the stage of the "Bank" institution at KPI. It was there that the first "Open Microphones" in the capital were held, where the best comedian of the evening was awarded a rather creative prize - a five-liter can. The atmosphere then was sincere and relaxed. Everyone was new to the genre, sincerely supported each other and performed for the sake of pleasure, not for the fees. Well, popularity and recognition among fans of humor became pleasant bonuses.
Today, for Lana, stand-up is no longer just a hobby, but a favorite profession. The artist admits that she gets real pleasure from the work and sees how her performances have a positive impact on fans. Among the achievements of the owner of bright charisma are hundreds of thousands of views on the Internet and a sea of positive comments under the video.
Lana Chubakha has more than 8 years of experience as an English teacher in elementary school. So she sincerely shares her work experience, recalling the period when she taught first-graders. In her jokes, Lana talks about communicating with children and parents, about being released from school, the value of family support, and other aspects of our lives. In the context of modern realities surrounding Ukrainians, stories about arrivals, a dangerous home, a time machine, interesting things in the subway, and much more have appeared in the stand-up comedian's repertoire.
Social activity
Volunteering became an important part of the comedian's life during the full-scale war. Lana emphasizes that among Ukrainian comedians, volunteering is more of a rule than an exception. And she herself actively helps: she supports her father's brigade, who is currently serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The artist also transfers the necessary equipment to volunteer battalions, in particular, friends from the Ukrainian Volunteer Army and the "Hospitaliery" medical battalion. Lana admits that she has a dream - to one day become a part of these structures, to help not only with words and humor, but also physically join in the defense of the country.
Lana Chubakha takes part in charity tours of Ukraine and European countries. For example, in September, a concert was held in London, where the comedian, in collaboration with another resident of the "Underground Stand-Up" Iryna Gil, used humor to earn money for the needs of our army.
The comedian tries to support the psychological health of Ukrainians with her jokes. Even during the first days of the war, when Lana and her sister were constantly in hiding, she tried to make the atmosphere easier for everyone. The comedian held psychological meetings and organized children's holidays with balloons and garlands. Lana admits that, surprisingly, during the entire time of the full-scale invasion, neither depression nor hyper-anxiety overcame her.
