History of the band
Medovyy Polyn is a Ukrainian musical group that was born in 2007 in Borshchiv – a city with its own culture, special atmosphere and recognizable character. The first line-up of the band gathered there: Pavlo Dolinsky on drums, Volodymyr Rybak on bass, and Kostyantyn Dunets, who took on the vocals and guitar. At first, the band worked almost as a chamber group, honing the material in their hometown, but at the very first concert, saxophonist Serhiy joined the group, adding new colors to the sound. Later, the line-up was expanded with solo guitarist Yuriy Korsun. And by the end of 2008, accordionist Mykola Kuryk, which finally formed the style of the band and enriched the musical content of the band's work.
The first concerts of Medovy Polyn were held in Borshchev. But the desire to break out onto the stage in front of a wider audience remained. In June, the musicians made their debut at the Student Republic festival in Ternopil, and the very next day they performed at the Youth Day in Kopychyntsi. These live shows gave the band a sense of drive and support – it was from that moment that an active creative tour of the cities of Ukraine began. Performances in Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi and their native region became the band’s first step towards popularity and recognition among fans.
The band’s name also has its own poetic history. Kostyantyn Dunets recalled his friend Serhiy Hulyk, who once wrote a composition about honey wormwood, which blooms in the heat and fills the air with an aroma capable of touching the soul. When the band needed a name, this image turned out to be so close and symbolic that the members accepted it without hesitation. Thus, the band received a name that became a creative talisman and a reflection of an authentic style, far from the clichés of the music industry.
Creative path
In 2008–2009, Medovyi Polyn experienced a period of rapid development. The musicians became the organizers of the rock festival "Speka" in Skala-Podilska. They took part in various events and introduced new cities to their sound. In January 2009, the band released a release - the song "Khvory Pes". This track became an actual creative debut for a wide audience. Its energy and folk punk style immediately attracted the attention of fans. And the video clip, shot on the outskirts of Borshchev, consolidated the first success. The band received a diploma for second place at the All-Ukrainian festival "Sofiyivski zori". The award showed that the group's creativity finds a way to the hearts of both listeners and music critics. In parallel, the band actively performed on various stages, appearing in front of large audiences more than once. The demo album "yDemo", released in 2009, became the first full-fledged recording that showed the style, character and potential of the team.
Over the years, the band has consolidated its status thanks to numerous concerts and participation in major festivals. Medovy Polyn performed at the "Fajny Mist" four times. It was a laureate of the "Chervona Ruta". It played at the "Zahed-Fest", "Respublika", the Polish Kiermasz Bojkowski and many events throughout Ukraine - from Dnipro and Vinnytsia to Ivano-Frankivsk region and Cherkasy. All these performances increased the popularity and expanded the circle of fans of the band.
In 2022, the band presented the album "Folk Punk" - a release that can be called a bold manifesto of style. This is music that combines folklore motifs and punk elements, which makes Medovy Polyn a unique phenomenon in modern culture. The group continues to actively give concerts, and in May 2025 organized a tour of Ukraine, planning performances in Lviv, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi and Pereyaslav.
Style and creative development
Today, the group consists of four members, and the leader and voice remains Kostyantyn Dunets - a singer and bassist, whose charisma and stage presence delight fans at festivals and concerts. The music of Medovy Polyn is an explosive mixture of energy, folk intonations, guitar drive, accordion and characteristic vocals, which is difficult to confuse with another Ukrainian group. The team's singles and video clips attract the attention of new fans, each time emphasizing: before us are artists who independently form their own style and leave a noticeable mark in the Ukrainian music industry.Discography and hits
