Nastya Zukhvala is a Ukrainian stand-up comedian, screenwriter and radio host, well known to fans of modern Ukrainian comedy. For seven years, the artist performed under the pseudonym "Derskaya", gradually making her way from open microphones in the "Bank" fan bar to the status of one of the brightest participants in the "Underground Stand-Up".
During this time, the comic's creative output included solo concerts with millions of views, an author's column in "Wonderzine Ukraine" and participation in the show "Goddess of Shopping". But after February 24, 2022, not only the country changed - the creative vector of Nastya herself also changed.
The full-scale invasion became a moment of rethinking for Nastya. The comic artist openly spoke about the fact that after February 24, the pseudonym "Dyerskaya" finally "went with the ship" for her, and then she was left with Zukhvala - without compromises in matters of language, culture and her own identity.
This decision was not just a change of name, but a change in internal focus. If previously a significant part of her work dealt with the topics of sexism, attitudes towards women and personal boundaries, then with the beginning of the Great War, the events taking place here and now became the focus of attention.
Nastya did not abandon the topics that were important to her. A clear understanding simply emerged: it is difficult to talk about global processes when the country is experiencing the reality of war every day.
After rethinking her own work, Nastya founded the insta-media "Dauntless Battalion", wrote a new program "Refined Fury" and went on a big tour of Ukraine and Europe.
The new material has more acute topics, reactions to social changes and personal experiences. But at the same time, the main element of her style has been preserved - honesty. Nastya works without a sense of “sterile” humor: it can be sharp, ironic, sometimes uncomfortable, but almost always very direct.
Among the topics that appear in the comedian’s performances:
By the way, Nastya has already managed to integrate even her own wedding into the new program - because for a stand-up comedian, any life situation sooner or later becomes material.
Nastya Zukhvala is a combination of sharp delivery, recognizable charisma and very lively interaction with the audience. Her humor is often based on personal experience, observations and reactions to events around her.
At the same time, even in difficult topics, the comic does not turn into moralizing. Her stand-up works through an honest conversation with the audience - sometimes tough, sometimes very funny, and sometimes one that makes you want to think about it on the way home.
Nastya's performances are not "background humor" that you can listen to out of the corner of your eye. What matters here is the intonation, context, and the very live live, for which people choose stand-up instead of another evening in the social media feed.
Today, Nastya Zukhvala remains one of the most noticeable comedians on the Ukrainian stand-up scene. Her work is supported, annoyed, discussed — but definitely not ignored.
