Ha*l*t

“Ha*l*t” is a play about a play that didn't happen.

In February 2022, rehearsals for the play “Hamlet” were underway at the Left Bank Theater. A poster hung on the facade of the theater – Hamlet (Olexandr Sokolov) is holding the door of a Kyiv Metro train, apparently wanting to stop the moment. Soon, a full-scale invasion will stop the rehearsals of the play.

Tamara Trunova's production of the play, created in collaboration with the actors and actresses involved in the project, is a reflection on the theme of what we have lost and those who have lost us.

“Ha*l*t” is Hamlet, from which the “me” was torn out, cut out. From German – a full stop.

Initially, the play “Ha*l*t” was created as a co-production of the Left Bank Theater (Kyiv) and the RADAR OST Festival (2023, Deutsches Theater Berlin, festival curator – Birgit Lengers) with the support of the Goethe-Institut and Christine Dissmann (director of Hotel Continental). The play opened the RADAR OST Festival 2023. Later, the play took part in the festivals: Piatra Neamț (Romania), Kierunek Wschód VII (Poland), Fokus Ukraine — Europäischen Theaterfestival 777 TAGE ДНИВ DAYS (Germany), COM•MEDIA (Lithuania).

In 2024, with an adaptation for the Ukrainian audience, the premiere of the play took place in Ukraine, at home, where its journey began.
