Becoming an artist

Oleksandr Sokolov is a Ukrainian theater and film actor, director. The star of the big stage and the television screen is an example of how unexpected turns of fate can radically change a person's life path. Born in Kyiv, the guy studied at a metropolitan lyceum with a physics and mathematics focus. Not a theatrical environment at all, but a serious academic education. So at first, Oleksandr did not go into creativity at all. And in 2011 he received a master's degree in international economics from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

However, even during his studies, the future actor felt a craving for art. The young man looked with admiration at the students of the theater university and thought of them as people from another reality. For an economics student, Karpenko-Kary was something like Hogwarts - a place where magic happens, incomprehensible from the outside.

After graduating from university, Sokolov decided to follow a creative path. The path to his dream turned out to be difficult. The young man could not immediately enter a theater university due to academic differences and lack of ZNO results. He had to put art aside for a while. At that time, Oleksandr went into sales to earn a living. But in the end he passed the test. And, having zero stage experience, he entered the I. K. Karpenko-Kary KNUTKiT. And he also got on a course with the outstanding director, People's Artist of Ukraine Dmitry Bogomazov.

This event became a real turning point in Oleksandr's life. The artist admits: he planned to try only once, so as not to regret it. That attempt turned out to be successful. That is why the actor perceives his story as great luck or as something destined from above. In 2015, Oleksandr received a diploma as an actor of drama theater and cinema.

Creative path

Having received an acting degree, Alexander Sokolov began working with the creative group of the Academic Theater of Young Spectators in Lypki. On the stage of the institution, he played in performances of various genres:

“Our Town” (George Gibbs);
“The Beautiful Sabine Women” (Agrippa);
“Dream” (Chiovnyk);
“Upside Down” (The Robber);
“My Name is Peter” (Peter Pan) and others.

In 2019, the actor continued his movement towards wide popularity and recognition among fans of stage art. Sokolov became part of the team of the Kyiv Academic Drama and Comedy Theater on the Left Bank of the Dnieper. The artist’s current repertoire includes performances and roles:

Alexander Sokolov made his film debut in 2013. He starred in one of the episodes of the series "Female Doctor-2". Later, he also appeared in episodic roles in the projects "The Dog", "The Guide" and "Cafe on Sadovaya". A bright actor with natural charisma was noticed by directors and producers in the film industry. So in 2018, Alexander got the role of Vlad in the melodrama "Only Love is Above". And in 2020, the actor played one of the leading roles in the work "Love with the Aroma of Coffee".

True popularity and love of a large audience was brought by participation in the series "My Favorite Strashko", where Alexander again played one of the main characters. Fans of the filmand TV series, Sokolov could also be seen in films:

But at the same time, natural and convincing. In each new work, the artist reveals new shades of his acting talent.

The full-scale invasion was a turning point in Oleksandr's life. He discovered himself in new roles, not only as an actor. Currently, Oleksandr Sokolov is in Kyiv and is also trying his hand at directing. His professional debut - the play "Lonely West" based on the play by Martin McDonagh - was the result of a victory in the festival in memory of the theater's founder Eduard Mytnytsky "Customs. New Direction". The format of the festival included readings of excerpts from selected plays, which were prepared by the participants together with the actors. It was Sokolov who chose the opportunity to realize his production on the stage of the Theater on the Left Bank of the Dnieper.

Oleksandr actively supports Ukrainian defenders. On his social media pages, he regularly posts collections for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The actor has repeatedly reported on the funds raised, which were used to purchase necessary items for wounded soldiers and provide a rehabilitation center.
