The history of the artist's formation

Singer ASAFATOV (real name – Sergey Asafatov) is originally from Vinnytsia. Sergey's life story is truly surprising and inspiring. The path to popularity and recognition was difficult. Sergey grew up in an orphanage from the age of five. From an early age, he felt that music was his calling. The boy did not just listen to compositions, but seemed to dissolve in every sound. Having no real instruments, Sergey created them himself: ordinary pens became drumsticks, and a board with stretched "strings" became an improvised guitar. There were no mentors, no knowledge, not even elementary information about music. However, the passion for creativity deeply touched Sergey, who even then dreamed of a big stage, bright live shows and a large audience of fans.

However, within the walls of the orphanage, the young man told almost no one about his aspirations. Most did not understand such a passion. Even fewer people believed in Asafatov's talent. After graduating from the boarding school, the 17-year-old young man was faced with the need to make a difficult choice. He had to decide how to build his future and what to rely on in adult life. Without the support of his family and clear guidelines, the young man had no idea which path to choose. But he knew very well that music was his passion. Like many of his peers, Serhiy had to choose a profession according to the distribution from the boarding school. Among the offers was the profession of a builder, but this path did not correspond to the dreams and aspirations of the young man.

The turning point in his life was the day of the entrance exams to a music school. It was then that the mother of his friend Serhiy returned from Italy. The woman bought the boy a trumpet and literally led him to the exams by the hand. Serhiy played a simple melody on the trumpet and sincerely spoke about his desire to study music. The next day, the applicant found out that he had been accepted, offering to learn to play the double bass. At that time, this instrument was completely unfamiliar to Serhiy. But there could be no refusals. The opportunity to immerse himself in the world of music was the main thing. Since then, life has changed dramatically.

Within a year of study, the talented student had mastered the double bass so well that in his second year he received an invitation to play in the philharmonic orchestra and in the theater. However, he did not limit himself to just one instrument - he simultaneously mastered the domra, violin, cello, bandura, and even all the wind instruments. He picked up each of them for the first time. But it felt as if he had known how to play that instrument for a long time. Sergey made enormous efforts during his studies. Every day he woke up at six in the morning and practiced playing right in the corridors of the school, even before the official classes began, which started at nine. But the fatigue was overshadowed by a feeling of absolute happiness. The musician seemed to have entered his own creative paradise, where everything was incredibly interesting. For many years, Asafatov only dreamed of studying music. Therefore, now, when he picks up any instrument, he discovers something new for himself every time.

Creative path

Sergey Asafatov took his first steps in the music industry as the leader of the Martovy group. The band was founded in 2006. The sincerity of the songs and the high-quality sound found a response in the hearts of the listeners. An important stage in the creative path of the group was the performance at the “Sheshory-2008” festival, which brought the first serious recognition. In the same year, the young band won the qualifying round of the legendary “Chervona Ruta” festival. Changes in the band’s composition led to an evolution of the sound – the music became deeper, more emotional, more rhythmically and meaningfully rich. The Martovy’s work intertwined a wide variety of styles: from romance, classics and folk to rock, funk and drive-punk. Gypsy and Balkan motifs added a special flavor, thanks to which the sound became unique and recognizable. In 2010, the band released the studio album "Time".

In 20216, Serhiy Asafatov, together with clarinetist Dmytro Koshelnyk, founded the acoustic duo Jazzforacat in Vinnytsia. Over the years of its activity, the group has visited almost all major cities of Ukraine with concerts. The musicians' live performances have won the favor of the audience. Jazzforacat have participated in numerous festivals and television projects. Each time, the performers demonstrated a unique style and conquered the audience with bright charisma. The members of the duo believed in the principle of making music accessible to everyone. Therefore, they often went out into the street and organized concerts in the open air.

Artist's style and development

In 2020, Asafatov became a participant in the project "Voice of the Country" and reached the superfinal in the team of Dmitry Monatic. A bright performance on the vocal show brought him wide recognition. A solo career began. The unique timbre and deep sincerity of the performance touched the hearts of thousands of music lovers. The singles "Gold" and "Sea" were released, which quickly became real hits. The video clip for the track "Sea" was a debut in the context of video works with the participation of ASAFATOV. The composition was born in collaboration with one of the most famous producers in Ukraine - Vitaly Telezin. The artist is also known for his collaborations with such cult bands as Okean Elzy, Lyapis Trubetskoy and Druha Rika. A professional approach and unique sound gave the track a special character and depth, worthy of the highest steps of the music charts.

Social activity

During the full-scale war, Serhiy Asafatov actively supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine by holding charity concerts. During the artist's performances, auctions are held, participants of which can make donations to support the army. In addition, the singer has repeatedly performed in front of the soldiers, encouraging them with his music and support. Serhiy recalls that he twice celebrated the New Year at the front with the military. Together with Arsen Mirzoyan, he visited a military unit in Irpen, where the occupiers had previously been. Serhiy saw in the eyes of the soldiers all the emotions from what he had experienced. But at the same time, he was grateful for the opportunity to give the defenders the opportunity to forget the terrible reality for at least a short time and emotionally recharge.

In the first months after the war, Sergei Asafatov could not even pick up a guitar due to severe emotional experiences. However, over time, he was able to overcome these difficulties and returned to creating music. The artist continued to write new compositions and release releases, finding strength in creativity.
