Hanna Kochegura is a stand-up comedian from Zaporizhzhia, a resident of "Underground Stand-up" and the winner in the Best Comedian Female nomination at the Independent Stand-up Festival. In short, a person who gradually entered stand-up and stayed in it for a long time.
Hanna entered stand-up not because of a “career plan,” but because of a chance encounter with comedy. In 2016, she got to see Irish comedian Dylan Moran’s performance in Kyiv. The story is simple: she came to watch — she left with the thought “so what, can I do this?”.
First there was observation mode. Then — the first attempts to write jokes. And then the open microphone, where the stage for the first time ceased to be something foreign.
The first performances are usually not about “perfect”. Rather, about trembling hands, a rapid heartbeat and the same internal dialogue “why am I here at all”. But these moments were the start of regular work with the stage.
Then came performances in different cities, participation in stand-up parties with short sets, work on the material and constant practice. Over time, Hanna Kochegura became part of the "Underground Stand-up" and appeared in more notable projects of the Ukrainian stand-up scene.
Also in her experience is a victory at the Independent Stand-up Festival in the Best Comedian Female nomination. This is not the final point, but rather a marker that the material and the stage are gradually forming into a system.
In stand-up, as everywhere else, there is competition. But usually it works as an engine: it pushes you to write more, perform more often, and polish your delivery. In a professional environment, feedback appears when it is requested — and is perceived as a working tool, not an assessment of “who is better.”
Negative reactions and unsuccessful performances are also part of the process. But with experience, the focus changes: less attention is paid to random comments, more to the material, rhythm, and contact with the audience. What really affects the performance.
The subject matter and choice of jokes by Hanna Kochegura are not adjusted to external assessments. The material is formed from experience, observations, and what really “catches” in life and on stage.
